News

As many of you will already have seen in the Latest News section of Canalrace C.I.C. website, Keith is retiring as organiser (i.e. in his words, “the person that makes it happen”) of the canal races at the end of this season.

I am delighted to announce that Keith’s appeal for someone to take over his role in 2026 has been successful. Rhys Jenkins and Cerys Jones of Pegasus Ultra Running will be at the Canalrace tiller next year. The Pegasus team have been staging ultra races (including The CANUM 40 on the “Mon & Brec” towpath) for several years. They have an excellent reputation for friendliness and inclusivity, and also even have experience of managing their own CIC. – surely the canal races couldn’t be in better hands. You can read all about them by visiting About • Pegasus Ultra Running. I’m sure many of you will be as excited as I am to see what they will bring to the party.

It feels slightly premature, when Keith is still firmly in charge for the coming season, but I can’t miss this opportunity to thank him for his amazing commitment to the cause. Having taken on the shoestring GUCR and LLCR ten years ago, he introduced KACR and WRCR and shaped them all into properly organised events, equipped for the modern era. I will always be extremely grateful for all he, along with wife Cathy and daughter Maisy, have done for our Ultra Community and the wonderful Canalrace Family.
